Self Assesement

I begin my first semester in CCNY with the English course – writing for engineering. Before I went to this class, I had been wondering what is the difference between writing for engineering and for literature. However, as the semester went by, I discovered that this is a course that not only teaches how to write technically but also inspires us to think what engineer really is. At this point, I think that the course achieved its goal and I’m benefited much more than I expected from it. At the beginning of every class, we were given a quote for class discussion and then do a 5 minutes free-writing about it. The quotes were thought-provoking and the timing free-writing enhanced my ability of idea organization.

What’s more, the first project of the course is to build up a Resume with cover letter, and it was my first time to write cover letter and  sample resume. Trough making up the resume, I got to know more about myself such as my skills and merits. However, by the same time I realized that my shortcomings are the milestones I have to achieve.

Besides, one of the most thing that I appreciated about the course was group works. There were many group discussions and projects through out the semester, and it was very pleased to solve problems and share ideas with classmates and group members. We discuss with each other during class hour and outside the class to accomplish group projects, by which I got to learn that a good coordinated communication is very important for proceeding a project.

All in all, by achieving the course, I learned how to write technical paper and developed time management skills. What’s more, my English skills improved throughout the semester, and I believe that what I learned will be very helpful for my future study.
